On 27th June, Whitwick St John the Baptist CE Primary School had the incredible honour of welcoming Paralympian Thomas Young to our school. Thomas, who won a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, visited to reconnect with one of his former teachers and to share his remarkable journey with our pupils.
The visit was nothing short of inspiring. Thomas led a whole school assembly, where he proudly displayed his Paralympic gold medal, captivating everyone with his achievements. His story of overcoming challenges and striving to be the best version of himself left a lasting impression on pupils and staff alike.
During the assembly, Thomas spoke about the importance of resilience, hard work, and believing in oneself, no matter the obstacles. He encouraged our pupils to dream big and reminded them that with determination and support, anything is possible.
Jim McMillan, one of our staff members who knew Thomas during his early years, expressed his joy at seeing Thomas again. "It was great to see Thomas again and wish him all the luck in the Paris 2024 Games," said Mr McMillan. "Seeing the children so inspired by him was truly wonderful."
Thomas Young's visit was a memorable event for everyone at Whitwick St John the Baptist CE Primary School, and we are all eager to cheer him on as he prepares for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. His visit has undoubtedly inspired a new generation of pupils to chase their dreams and work towards their goals with the same passion and perseverance that Thomas embodies.
